VERONICA CHARLES, PRESIDENT
GRADUATE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL – American University
School of Public Affairs – Master of Public Administration
Veronica Charles is pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration with an emphasis in education policy. Prior to serving as President, Veronica served as the Vice President of Management for the Graduate Leadership Council, where she gained valuable insight into the needs of a growing graduate student population and learned how to better serve the constituency.
Veronica graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she served as the Director of Legislative Affairs and lobbied on behalf of the student body at the Nevada state legislature.
Prior to joining American University, Veronica worked on Capitol Hill for a Nevada member and helped manage a successful school funding campaign in her home state. She also worked for the Minority Policy Coordinator in the Nevada Senate and worked closely with the Nevada System of Higher Education to create legislation that would improve job outcomes across the state.
During her time at the University of Nevada, Veronica held several cabinet positions in student government, the Delta Gamma Fraternity, and the Division of Health Sciences Advisory Board. As an alumna, she volunteers her time to the Nevada State Society of Washington, D.C.
In her spare time, Veronica is an avid hiker and runner, and can’t get enough of American History. Veronica is a strong supporter of special education, early education, higher education, and student advocacy, and looks forward to continuing to meet with members of AU’s graduate community.
