Robert Lyons is an Iowan native and 2017 graduate of Simpson College located in Indianola, Iowa. He double-majored in Political Science and Public Relations and double-minored in History and Management at Simpson. Robert is now pursuing his Master of Public Administration at American University and will be graduating in May of 2019.

At Simpson, Robert served for three years as his class president and for one year as the student body president. During his time in student government, Robert re-wrote his student government’s Constitution, Bylaws, Election Code, and Finance Code whilst serving on too many student, faculty, staff, and administration committees to count. Robert also oversaw several large-scale capital improvement projects including new sidewalks and lighting on campus.

Additionally, Robert founded and served as president of the largest service club on campus, the Rotaract Club of Simpson College and also founded and served as Editor-in-Chief of the satirical newspaper, “the Acorn.” Furthermore, Robert competed in speech & debate, played in the band, performed in theater, and worked for Residence Life.

At American University, Robert previously served as the MPA Representative on the SPA Graduate Student Council where he focused on efforts to improve the campus shuttle service for graduate students. Currently, as Vice President of Communications for the GLC, Robert is focused on updating and revamping the organization’s website, social media pages, and general communications with campus.

In his free time, Robert enjoys reading science-fiction and fantasy books and exploring the multitude of museums, galleries, and historic locations in the DMV area.
