Laraib Nisar is a graduate student at American University pursuing a Master of Science in Finance with a specialization in Finance Analytics. With a background in quantitative finance, investment strategy, and data-driven decision-making, Laraib brings an analytical and forward-thinking perspective to graduate student leadership. He is passionate about creating a graduate community where students are not only represented, but empowered to take advantage of opportunities that help them grow academically, professionally, and personally.

His professional experience spans equity research, portfolio management, derivatives, and business valuation. He has managed $14.4 million in retirement portfolios and achieved 13% market outperformance, while developing expertise in financial modeling, risk analytics, and technology-driven decision-making. These experiences have strengthened his ability to identify opportunities, solve complex problems, and turn information into meaningful action.

As part of the AU Graduate Leadership Council, Laraib is committed to making student needs a central focus of graduate leadership. He believes students should have access to career opportunities, internships, professional networks, mentorship, and meaningful pathways to employment that prepare them for success beyond the classroom. He hopes to help build stronger connections between graduate students, employers, alumni, and the broader AU community so that students can translate their education into tangible professional opportunities.

Laraib also believes that empowerment means giving students a genuine voice in the decisions that affect their graduate experience. He is committed to listening to student concerns, advocating for their priorities, and helping create an environment where every graduate student has the resources and confidence to pursue their goals.

His vision is simple: a graduate experience where students are heard, opportunities are accessible, and every student is empowered to turn their time at AU into a foundation for meaningful academic, professional, and personal success.
