Jon Joey “JJ” Telebrico

Jon Joey “JJ” Telebrico is the President of the College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Council and a Humanities Truck Fellow at American University. Hailing from Santa Clara, California and completing an undergraduate education at Claremont McKenna College with dual degrees in Philosophy and American Studies, JJ is spending some time away from their home state while he studies philosophical issues at the intersection of technology, identity, and education—spanning topics such as deepfakes, digital subjectivity, and AI/technology ethics. These research interests stem from their time working in K-12 education (including serving two terms with AmeriCorps) for the past 6 years, working with hundreds of students across the U.S. and the world to leverage emergent technologies and deepen students’ understanding of global affairs, public speaking, and civic engagement. As he presents his work at conferences across the U.S., Canada, and Belgium, JJ is excited to be a part of dialogues that bridge academia, industry, and policy at a global scale. When not reading philosophy or co-organizing for Minorities and Philosophy on campus, JJ enjoys exploring the food and live music scene across the DMV as well as volunteering their time with the Washington Urban Debate League.

JJ is ecstatic to lead CAS graduate students this year and seeks to center students through three main priorities: increasing disciplinary representation, developing sustainable systems, and promoting school resources. Feedback and ideas are always welcome in his inbox!
